Dorothy Lee Garner, 94, of Gaston, NC died Monday, October 10, 2016, at Trinity Elms, in Clemmons, NC.


Mrs. Garner was born in Northampton County, NC the daughter of the late Willie Fitzhugh Lee and Martha Emma “Pattie” Wrenn Lee. She was preceded in death by her husband, of 61 years, Cecil T. Garner. Her brother, Shelton A. Lee, three sisters: Bettie L. Woodruff, Lillian L. Baird, Virginia L. Bray and a grandson, Nathan S. Garner, also preceded her.


She graduated from Gaston High School in 1938, and was a 1943 graduate of the Roanoke Rapids Hospital School of Nursing. Her long nursing career, included being a hospital nurse, private duty nurse and for many years a nurse at the Halifax Clinic. She continued to serve as Dr. Taylor’s nurse until her retirement and the practice closed. She took great pride in being a Registered Nurse.


Surviving are: two sons, Cecil Thomas “Tommy” Garner II and his wife, Sandra C. of Ayden, NC and Charles Richard “Dick” Garner and his wife, Belinda H. of Mocksville, NC; three grandchildren, Jessica G. Moseley, Kristin G. Callison and Jacob A. Garner; seven great grandchildren, Lauren E. Landmark, Lily H. Landmark, Nathan T. Moseley, Bowen A. Callison, Elin A. Callison, Austyn M. Garner and Braxton R. Garner.


Mrs. Garner was an active member from an early age of Shiloh United Methodist Church, Gaston, NC where funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, October 16, 2016, with Rev. Rick Russell officiating. Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids, NC.


The Family will receive at Wrenn Clarke & Hagan Funeral and Cremation Service, 1015 West 5th Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC, Saturday, October 15, 2016, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.


In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Shiloh United Methodist Church, Cemetery Fund or the Memorial Fund.
