SYLVIA PROCTOR HIGGINS

Sylvia Proctor Higgins, age 86, of Roanoke Rapids, died peacefully in her home to

be in the presence of the Lord on Wednesday, August 10, 2016.


Sylvia was born to Charlie Mason Proctor, Sr. and Annie Belle Walston on October

14, 1929 in Tarboro, NC. After graduating high school, she earned her nursing

degree and began her career as a private hospital nurse. On January 11, 1950, she

married her husband, Curtis Celton Higgins. Together, they had four children.

Silvia spent the majority of her nursing career working for Halifax County Health

Department and retired after 25 years of service. Sylvia was a strong woman of

faith, a devoted member of Roanoke Baptist Church, and she cared greatly for her

family. Traveling, cross-stitching, sewing, and baking around the holidays were

some of her memorable pastimes. And in the final years of her life, she found joy

in spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren and dear

friend Betsy Moncure.


She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Charlie Proctor, Jr. and

Robert Proctor, her husband, and her daughter Nancy Carol Higgins. She is

survived by her brother Marion Proctor, of Tarboro, NC, her sons Curtis “Craig”

Higgins, of Ponte Vedra, Fla., Robert “Toby” Higgins, of Coral Springs, Fla.,

William “Bill” Higgins, of Snow Camp, NC, eleven grandchildren, and four great

grandchildren.


Visitation will be on Friday August 12 at Wrenn, Clarke, & Hagan Funeral Home

located at 1015 W. 5th St, Roanoke Rapids from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm. A funeral will

take place to celebrate her life on Saturday August 13 at Roanoke Baptist Church

at 2:00 pm, internment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the

family is requesting contributions be made to Roanoke Baptist Church, 101 Henry

St, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.
