Aileen Hux Mooney, 94, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:30 AM in the Wilkerson Funeral
Chapel, Greenville. A graveside service will also be held Saturday at 4 PM at
Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids. Rev. Beth Thompson, associate pastor
of Oakmont Baptist Church will officiate both services.
Mrs. Mooney, a native and longtime resident of Roanoke Rapids, graduated from
Roanoke Rapids High School. She was the daughter of Lawrence and Eva Hux.
She worked for many years as a hair stylist and then an instructor at Mitchell’s
Hairstyling Academy. In her last few years of employment she was a bookkeeper
for Star Furniture Company. After retirement in 1982, Mrs. Mooney enjoyed
traveling with her husband James, especially their annual trips to Florida. The
Mooney’s relocated to Greenville several years ago to be near their daughter and
family. She was a charter member of Roanoke Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids,
where for many years she was an active Choir member. After moving to
Greenville Mrs. Mooney’s spiritual support was met through the outreach of
Oakmont Baptist Church’s televised services and ministers.
Mrs. Mooney was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Mooney, her son,
Leroy W. Morris, Jr., and brothers, Albert Hux, Sr and Gordon Hux. Mrs.
Mooney was also previously married to the late Leroy W. Morris, Sr. of Roanoke
She is survived by her Daughter, Catherine Morris White and husband, Bruce, of
Greenville; grandsons, Brandon White of Baltimore, MD, Travis White of
Greenville, and Alex White of Tampa, FL, and Chapel Hill; Nephews, Albert R.
Hux, Jr. and wife, Judy of Apex, Chuck Hux and wife Joan of Asheville; and
niece, Barbara Cosby and husband, Bob of PA; Step-nephew and nieces Skip
Stotesbury of Rocky Mount, Bonnie Bell and Debra Bell, both of Falls Church,
VA, and Mooney Knox of Ocala, FL
The family will receive friends prior to the funeral from 10:30 to 11:30 at
Wilkerson Funeral Home and following the Roanoke Rapids graveside service at
Wrenn, Clarke and Hagan Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids. Memorials may be
made to the charity of choice.
