Audrey Whitten Ogden, 95, passed away peacefully, January 7, 2019 at Vidant Medical Center-Palliative Care Unit in Greenville, NC with her daughters by her side.

Audrey was born June 1, 1923 at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Amherst County, Virginia in a home her father built with his own hands. Her loving parents were Marvin Harrison Whitten and Hattie Pearl Stinnett Whitten.

On July 5, 1947, she married the love of her life, Billy Sunday (“Lum”) Ogden. At the time of his death in 2009, they had been married 62 years.

She loved being a wife, mother, and homemaker. Audrey gave generously of her time as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and children’s Sunday School Teacher. She was active in the United Methodist Women, (receiving a special mission pin for service) and the Ruth Oaks Sunday School Class. She especially enjoyed working in the Church Kitchen and helping shut-ins.

She is survived by her daughters, Rev. Wanda Ogden and Donna Johnson and son-in-law, Bill of Roanoke Rapids.

She is predeceased by brothers: Buren and Harrison Whitten and sisters: Cecil Nuckols, Mary Carroll, Lottie Coffey, Lucille Nuckols, Ethel Kingsbury, and Virginia Ogden.

The family expresses its deepest appreciation to Menia Johnson for the care and love she gave to Mrs. Ogden. A celebration of Audrey’s life will be held Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 11:00 am in the chapel of First United Methodist Church with Rev. Joseph Casteel officiating. The Family will receive following the service. Burial will be private in Cedarwood Cemetery.
