LOUISE TWIDDY WOODROOF
Louise Twiddy Woodroof went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 16, 2022. She was born July 24, 1928 in Roanoke Rapids, NC as the oldest child of the late Herbert and Helen Haskett Twiddy.
Louise grew up in Roanoke Rapids and graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School in 1946. While in high school during World War II, she worked at the candy counter of McCrory’s Dime Store. After graduation, she became a legal secretary and Notary Public, working for Kelly Jenkins, Attorney at Law and Mayor of Roanoke Rapids, until March 1954. Soon thereafter, Louise fulfilled her dream of becoming a mother and homemaker. She once said that she never wanted to do anything but stay home with her children.
Louise married the love of her life, Richard Abb “Woody” Woodroof, on December 22, 1947. Over their 71-year marriage, they were totally devoted to one another. In the early years, they enjoyed going to the beach and traveling, including memorable trips to Key West, FL and Nashville, TN. After having children, family was their priority. Louise was a Proverbs 31 wife and mother. She participated in her children’s school activities, including PTA and Room Representative. She was a woman of faith and served at Rosemary United Methodist Church in many capacities over the years, including Children’s Sunday School & Vacation Bible School teacher, President of Women’s Society of Christian Service, Chair of Council on Ministries, and Trustee. She was also active in Adult Sunday School classes, Methodist Women’s Circle, numerous Bible studies and prayer groups. She was very compassionate and an encourager of other people. After Woody’s retirement, they traveled to visit family, including multiple trips to Germany, California, Florida, South Carolina, and Virginia. She enjoyed reading, socializing with family and friends, and doting on her grandson and great-grandsons.
Louise is preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents and four siblings. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Jonathan) Clark of Norfolk, VA and Kaye (Mike) Angus of Pensacola, FL; son, Richard Woodroof of Boca Raton, FL; grandson, Hunter (Wendy) Simmons of Dublin, VA; great-grandsons, Tristan Simmons of Virginia Beach, VA and Grayson Simmons of Dublin, VA; step-grandson, Matthew (Shellie) Angus of Salt Lake City, UT and step-great-grandsons, Michael and Patrick Angus of Salt Lake City, UT.
