Margaret Elizabeth Eye Elliott, 98, passed away July 13, 2019 at her home in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
She was born April 3, 1921, in the Deer Run Community of Pendleton County, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Harry W. Eye and Annie Martin Eye.
She graduated from the nursing school at Church Home and Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1942, and soon thereafter married Arthur E. Elliott, who, as a U.S. Army sergeant, was immediately called overseas for two years. On his return, she was a homemaker, wife for 67 years and mother. She was predeceased by her husband, five sisters, Corinne Richter, Bonnie Vetters, Dorothy Humphrey, Lois Eye, and Joan Bodkin, and one brother Dr. H. Luke Eye.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Janice Light (Darrell), her son, Bradley A. Elliott (Diane), a sister-in-law, Jane Eye, six grandchildren, David A. Light (Melissa), Sara L. Wellman (Michael), Joel Thomas Elliott (Sheer), James P. Elliott (Krystal), Rebekah Hart and Maria Davis, and seven great grandchildren.
She was a dedicated church worker, talented needle-worker, ferocious bridge player and ceaseless thinker.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at Wrenn Clarke and Hagan Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, with the Reverend Wanda Ogden officiating, and burial to follow at Cedarlawn Cemetery in Rich Square, North Carolina. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 339 Roanoke Avenue, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, or the Roanoke Valley Veterans Museum, 1620 E. 10th St, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
